Pain Tolerance

Having high pain tolerance is a beneficial thing when having a baby... breaking an elbow... and recovering from surgery of any kind. It's not so great when it comes to learning a lesson from God.

Oftentimes God allows us to experience pain to guide us along the paths He knows we need to take. Especially in the Old Testament of the Bible, God used pain to alert those living in those times that their actions were wrong. Plagues, problems, physical pain and even pain of the heart caused people to notice that perhaps they were being punished for something, prompting them to inquire of God and often repent. For those who chose that latter action, the painful penalty was removed. For those who resisted, the pain persisted and sometimes increased.

All to get our attention. Sometimes the people were erring in ignorance, not even out of evil intent. Whatever course our heart has chosen in life, God corrects our actions and gives us life to allow Him to continues to bless us as He so desires to do. Sometimes a high pain tolerance simply prolongs the process.

"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you lfe and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."

(Deuteronomy 30:19 NIV)
